An Afternoon in Chiang Mai's Inner City Park

Chiang Mai has a beautiful inner city park called Suan Buak Haad Public Park. We noticed it on a trip to the shopping center one day and thought it would be a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. So that is what we did!

Inner City Park

Being a Saturday the park was full of life! There were families and couples everywhere laying the grass or sitting on their Rattan mats enjoying food and time together in the shade. It was such a beautiful and romantic site.

The park is very picturesque. I loved the little bridges that went over the pond and met the winding pathways that guided us around the entire park with its beautifully manicured gardens and magical fountains. We came across a kids playground where Phoneix had fun exploring and watching the other kids (until he decided he wanted to eat the sand...hmmm)

After some time in the playground we stopped to look over into the pond and saw literally 1000's of fish! A couple of guys were throwing bread in the pond and there was a feeding frenzy! Phoenix was mesmerized by this for a good 10 minutes before his attention was directed at the many pigeons who also wanted in on the action. We noticed that bags of dry pellets can be purchased on site to feed the fish and the birds!

After Lucas got pooped on by one of the pigeons we decided to keep walking, especially considering they were all full of bread! As we made our way around Suan Buak Haad Public Park we noticed a whole range of exercise equipment where people of all ages were working out and keeping fit! I though this was super cool ! This wasn't your normal run of the mill gym equipment either! I will let the little video below tell that story. The park also seems to be a popular place for people to play basketball, jog or simply throw a ball around.

If you forget to pack a picnic you don't have to worry because Inside the park grounds you will find little cafes and food stalls that sell a range of snacks. Outside of the park grounds you will find loads of fruit stalls. I also noticed that a lot of the food stalls hire out the Rattan Mats for 10THB which I thought was a great idea!

Inner City Park

I am sure we will be back to Suan Buak Haad Park again during our stay here in Chiang Mai. It really is a great little spot to take a stroll or just lay back with a good book and relax, not to mention a perfect a spot for families and kids visiting Chiang Mai.
