I just love how nature provides us with everything we need to stay healthy and beautiful inside and out !! Beauty really doesn't have to cost the earth and in fact the earth provides us with all we really need !! Below are just some of the home made beauty treatments that I can't live without and that really do work !! It's time to keep it simple, ditch the chemicals and "Wonder Cures" that we see in the media and look to mother nature.

DIY Beauty Treatments

Amazing Benefits of Aloe Vera

I love using Aloe Vera on my skin. I actually have two plants growing in some pots in my back yard to ensure that I have access to its amazing properties at all times.

The plants are very easy to grow, however is you don't consider yourself much of a green thumb then you can pick up Aloe Vera from most health food stores.

The Beauty of Aloe Vera is that it is really simple to use and can provide so many benefits without breaking the bank.

To use Aloe Vera all you need to do is take the gel substance from inside the plant and apply to your skin.... Easy as that !!

Here are 5 Ways I use AloVera Moisturizing Applying aloe vera gel on skin prior to application of make-up can prevent the skin from drying.

Aftershave: Aloe vera gel can be used as an aftershave. Its healing properties can treat small cuts caused by shaving.

Treating Acne: Aloe vera gel has antimicrobial properties that kill bacteria and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with minimal scarring. Aloe is moisturizing but doesn`t give skin a greasy feel, so it`s perfect for anyone with an oily complexion.

Fight Wrinkles: The vitamin C and E present in aloe gel can improve our skin`s natural firmness and keep our skin hydrated.

Stretch Marks: Whether due to a growth spurt, weight change, or pregnancy - many of us are plagued with unsightly stretch marks. These marks appear due to minor tears in the layers of the skin caused by sudden and excessive stretching. Aloe vera gel can help hide these stretch marks by healing these wounds.

Sunburn: Aloe vera gel can reduce the pain and swelling you experience during sunburn. It acts as a protective layer on the skin and helps replenish its moisture. When the skin is hydrated, then it will recover faster from the sunburn.

For the Love of Lemons

Lemons are so cheap to buy and not only are they fantastic squeezed in some warm water to guzzle of a morning to help the body detox they also provide some amazing benefits to the skin !!

WARNING : If you have never used lemons on your skin before they can be quite intense so to get your skin used to their acidity dilute in a little water before applying.

Here are some of my favourite uses in my beauty routine with lemons.

Lighten Freckles and Age Spots: Lemon juice fades freckles and age spots by applying before going to bed at night. Over the course of a week or two, it will cleanse the skin and lighten its color. You can also add 1/2 cup of fresh juice to your bath water and soak for 20 minutes for an all over skin treatment.

Black Heads and Pimples: Get Rid of Blackheads by rubbing lemon juice over the area of your face that has blackheads before going to bed at night. In the morning, rinse your face with cool water. Repeat this procedure nightly until blackheads are gone.

Moisturising Mask Make a moisturizing mask for dry skin by mixing equal amounts of honey, lemon and olive oil. Apply the mixture to dry areas on the skin and allow it to dry thoroughly for about 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Face Scrub To exfoliate dead skin cells rub a cut lemon dipped into a half-teaspoon of sugar over your face for a few minutes, or create a mild mixture by using lemon juice, sugar and a small amount of honey. Do this every night to help remove accumulated dead skin cells and refresh your skin.

Banish Wrinkles To make a lemon anti-wrinkle mask mix a teaspoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice and a drop of sweet almond oil. Apply this mixture on the face and allow it to dry for 20 minutes and wash off.

Crazy for Coconuts

Coconut Oil is something I discovered before it was cool and I have found it to be absolutely amazing for both my skin and my hair !! The contributions of vitamin-E towards skin are well known and Coconuts are full of it.

Vitamin E is essential for a healthy skin growth, repair of wear & tear in the skin, keeping skin smooth and protection against cracking and above all, it prevents ageing and wrinkling of skin, as it has good anti oxidant properties.

Like coconut, coconut oil is also rich in many proteins. These proteins keep skin healthy and rejuvenated, both internally and externally. Some of my favourite uses for Coconut Oil are :

Eye Makeup Remover apply some coconut oil to your eyes and gently work around where your makeup is. YOU WILL LOOK LIKE A PANDA whilst undertaking this step however after wiping clear with a warm face cloth you will return to normal.

Eye Treatment  After I have finished my nightly or morning beauty routine I like to apply coconut oil over my eyes including my lashes as it really conditions them and it is great for under eye wrinkles.

Moisturiser Coconut Oil is a great all round moisturiser !! I use it on my cuticles, my elbows, soles of my feet and on my face before bed at night.

Hair Conditioner This is the winner in my eyes !! On dry hair work the coconut oil into your hair and scalp paying particular attention to the ends of your hair. Wrap your hair in a towl, shower cap or a bandana and sleep like this. When you wake up in the morning, shower and shampoo and condition as normal. Watch how you hair will shine !!

Shaving This is another favourite for me. I hate shaving as I always get a rash... not any more after discovering that you can actually shave with coconut oil. Ditch the nasty, chemical laden shaving cream and TRY THIS you will thank me !!

I really do love creating natural beauty treatments at home and I have so many more that I look forward to sharing with you over the coming months.

If you have tried any of these then please let me know your experience in the comments below xx JD
